Author (with hint of a sly smile) - Dear reader, While your mind dives to the depths of Mariana Trench to find a meaningful twist to this topic - the answer is quite simple - nothing! (Quite like the questions that my Professor likes to quiz me on - Is there a relationship between X and Y parameters of a system and I rack my brains and the right answer is - no prizes for guessing this one - nothing!).
So dear reader, sit back and relax. Sometimes we look for complex things and the reality is simple. I took some time off from my life full of care - to stand and stare , to reflect and introspect and discover the simple joys, truths and stories which I hope to share with you through this forum. I hope that the things I write about resonate with you and you find it to be an amusing read to fill in your idle moments while you wait for a commute or that friend who is always always late!
Much like the simple potato which has found its way to appease people across the world and can always be a faithful companion to main dish, a savory snack or even the food that allows you to survive through fasts (yes - potatoes can be eaten during fasts in certain regions)! I am digressing here, but think about it - If Hollywood sci-fi were precursors to the future reality- the first food item that can be easily vegetated on Mars are again potatoes (source : The Martian). Mr. Elon Musk - This might be a helpful tip to consider for the Occupy Mars program!
Now, since you have spent your valuable time reading my ramblings, I owe you a little bit of random information so that you learn something interesting along the way. Potatoes are the fourth largest food crop in the world, preceded by corn, rice and wheat. And they have proved to be a staple source of food even during world food price crisis, with minimal price fluctuations. So much so, the United Nations declared 2008 to be THE INTERNATIONAL YEAR OF THE POTATO! Simple things make a difference, don't they?
So ladies and gentleman, boys and girls,countrymen and immigrants - please take a moment in honor of the very humble, absolutely dependable,amazingly versatile and completely relishable-in-every-way veggie - the Solanum tuberosum. Have some French Fries and a good day!
